A free online zombie survival game with no gore

Deadwood Quarantine is a walled island across the bay from Craze City: a zombie shooter with seven weapons, a real reload and a horde that gets worse the further in you go. It is the highest-paying work in the game — and none of it is yours until you walk back over the bridge.

Contained, not killed

A zombie game you can hand to a twelve-year-old

Almost every zombie game solves "is it dead?" with blood. Craze City does not have any. The infected are contained, not killed: at zero health they collapse, a containment crew hauls them off the field, and they are gone. No corpse, no blood, no loot pile. The bounty pays straight into your wallet and your reputation, worded as quarantine work, because that is what it is.

That is a design rule the whole mode is built to, not a toggle in a settings menu. It is also why the horde can be genuinely frightening without being grim — the fear comes from the fog, the noise, the five-second raid warning and the walk back to the bridge with a full wallet.

No blood, no gore, no dismemberment

Built to a 12+ content standard throughout. The final store rating is whatever Apple's and Google's questionnaires return.

How the zone works

Six things that decide whether you make it back

  • Depth is the difficulty dial

One number drives everything: how far west of the wall you have walked. It sets how many infected the island holds around you (12 near the wall, 40 deep), which breeds spawn, how far they smell you from, and how often the horde raids.

  • Raids, with five seconds' warning

Near the wall a raid runs about 32 seconds and you get 115 before the next one. Deep in the zone it is 58 seconds of raid and 58 of gap — half your time. You get a five-second warning and nothing else, and the first raid lands forty seconds in.

  • One magazine is a decision

Twelve rounds, four a second, 1.9 seconds to reload. A Runner costs two rounds, a Shambler four, a Ravager eight. The Brute costs fourteen — the only thing on the island that makes you reload mid-fight. Turn up unarmed, though, and the checkpoint hands you a bat: guns are earned, not issued.

  • Board up and hold out

Buy planks at the checkpoint and barricade the doors and windows of an abandoned house. A sealed room is the difference between a breather and a bad night.

  • The bridge is always open

The infected leash to the island. They cannot follow you onto the bridge, so retreat is always available — the question is only how much unbanked pay you are willing to walk away from.

  • Go down and it is gone

Hazard pay only becomes yours when you walk back across that bridge. Get knocked out inside the wire and every coin you had not banked stays there.

It is a shooter

Seven weapons, and ammo is the clock

Pistol up to sniper rifle, each gated by standing and paid for in city money — the pistol is a couple of shop runs, the sniper is a project. Magazines, a reserve, and a reload you can be caught in the middle of. Full-auto is there and it bleeds accuracy if you hold it, so the fight is about trigger discipline rather than holding down fire.

The armourer at the checkpoint hands out a ration of ammunition every few minutes. That ration, not your health bar, is what decides how deep you can afford to go.

Four breeds of infected

Which ones you meet depends entirely on how far past the wall you have walked. Rounds are counted against the standard weapon: twelve damage a shot, four shots a second, twelve to a magazine.

How Deadwood Quarantine scales with depthA 480 metre island. At the wall you meet Shamblers, with about twelve infected around you and about 115 seconds between raids. Ravagers begin past the halfway point. Brutes appear in the deepest quarter and are hard-capped. At the far shore there are about forty infected and only 58 seconds between raids, which is as long as a raid itself lasts out there. • Shambler — The default. What the ground near the wall is made of.

  • Ravager — Past the halfway line, once you have committed to the deep zone.

  • Brute — Deep, rare and hard-capped, so meeting one is an event.

FAQ

Zombie survival questions

Is Craze City a free zombie game?
Yes. Craze City is free to download on iOS and Android with no in-app purchases of any kind — no loot boxes, no gem shop and no real-money price tag anywhere. Deadwood Quarantine, the zombie survival zone, is part of the game rather than paid extra content.
Is it a zombie shooter?
Yes. Deadwood Quarantine is a third-person zombie shooter: seven weapons from pistol to sniper rifle, each gated by standing and paid for in city money, with twelve-round magazines, a reserve, a real reload you can be caught in the middle of, and full-auto that bleeds accuracy if you hold it. Ammunition is rationed at the checkpoint, so how deep you go is decided by what you are carrying.
Is it a multiplayer zombie game?
Craze City is an online open world, so you and your friends are in the same city at the same time and can cross the bridge into Deadwood Quarantine together. One account carries your money, your house and your gear into every session.
Is there blood or gore in the zombie mode?
No. The infected are contained rather than killed — at zero health they collapse and are carried off the field. There is no corpse, no blood and no gore anywhere in the mode, and the bounty is paid as quarantine work. It is built to a 12+ standard on purpose.
What kinds of zombies are there?
Four. Runners are small and fast and take two rounds. Shamblers are the ordinary horde at four rounds. Ravagers appear past the halfway point and take eight. Brutes stand 2.16 metres, take fourteen rounds, and only spawn deep in the zone.
How do you earn money in Deadwood Quarantine?
Hazard pay accrues by the minute and multiplies the further into the zone you push, and every infected you contain pays a bounty on top — $9 for a Runner, $12 a Shambler, $26 a Ravager and $70 a Brute. None of it is yours until you walk back over the bridge.
Can you play the zombie mode alone?
Yes. The island is populated whether or not your friends are online, and the difficulty scales with how deep you walk rather than with how many people you brought.
Does it need an internet connection?
Yes. Craze City is an online open world, so it needs a connection to put you in the city alongside other players. The world itself is generated on your device, so there is no level to download before you can play.
