The Craze City field guide / 01

Home decoration in life sims: how much can you change?

Before choosing a life sim for home decoration, check whether furniture is freely placed, added to fixed slots or unlocked through room upgrades. All three can produce attractive interiors, but only one may give you the layout control you want. A furnished home screenshot does not reveal how it was created.

Watch someone move a piece of furniture

The most useful demonstration is simple: select an object, place it, rotate it and change your mind. That sequence tells you how much control the game offers. If the room changes through a single upgrade button, decoration may be a progression system rather than an open design tool.

Fixed layouts can still be enjoyable when choosing furniture gives a home a clear identity. They can also be easier to use on a small screen. Free placement offers more experimentation but needs good selection controls, clear boundaries and a way to undo mistakes. Decide whether you want design freedom or a quick sense of improvement.

A room needs to work at character scale

Interiors can look wonderful from a distant camera and feel awkward when you walk through them. Watch the character moving around furniture, using doors and reaching interactive objects. If decoration can block a route, check whether the game warns you or lets you recover easily.

For a phone game, inspect object selection at ordinary viewing size. Small overlapping items can be difficult to tap precisely. A good interface makes the selected item obvious and separates moving from purchasing. You should not need to worry that an accidental tap will spend resources when you were only trying to inspect a chair.

Know what a purchase changes

Some games unlock a furniture item permanently; others charge for each copy or bundle pieces into sets. Check whether a purchase belongs to your character, one room or one property. This matters if you plan to move house or experiment with several styles.

Think about how you want to earn the next improvement. Decorating can be the main game, supported by design challenges, or a reward for activities elsewhere in a life sim. If you enjoy working a job to furnish a room, the connection between wages and home upgrades may matter more than having hundreds of objects immediately available.

Craze City's housing is still developing

The current build has furniture ownership and home upgrade tiers. That is evidence of a furnishing system, not a promise of unrestricted room building or precise free placement. We should show the actual controls before asking you to assume that level of creative freedom.

The housing design article discusses why owning a place matters in the city. For ideas about using a home as a setting for a character's routine, see apartment roleplay. The public city capture shows exterior neighbourhoods, so it is labelled accordingly instead of being presented as an interior design screen.

Where Craze City fits

Craze City’s current housing system tracks owned furniture and home upgrades. The full game is prelaunch. This page does not promise unrestricted building, movable walls or a complete room editor, and the exterior capture should not be read as evidence of those tools.

Quick questions

Does a game with furniture always allow free placement?

No. Furniture may fill fixed positions or arrive through room upgrades. Look for an actual placement demonstration if designing the layout yourself is important.

What is the difference between furnishing and building a house?

Furnishing changes what goes inside a space. Building may involve walls, room shapes or structural layout. A life sim can support one without supporting the other.
